Chennai-based deep-tech startup The ePlane Company is taking Indian aviation to the skies. Incubated at IIT Madras, the electric aircraft pioneer has successfully built its first full-scale air ambulance prototype and kicked off ground testing.
With flight tests scheduled for this monsoon and full certification targeted by late 2027, the startup aims to begin commercial production in 2028. Operating initially with a capacity of 80 eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft per year, founder Satya Chakravarthy shared that they are already building a second prototype and exploring a dedicated manufacturing facility. This marks a massive leap forward for emergency healthcare mobility and India’s emerging electric aviation sector.
